Life Without Baby

Filling the silence in the motherhood discussion

Whiny Wednesday: Charity Case March 7, 2012

It’s happened again. I’ve been offered a child for adoption. Unfortunately, this “child” is the adult black sheep of the family, a young man who has so disappointed his own mother that she’s willing to give him away to a charitable cause, i.e., me.

I’m fairly sure (although not 100 percent certain) that this woman was kidding when she said, “You can have one of mine,” but even so, I can’t help being totally insulted by her suggestion that I am so desperate to be a mother that I’d take her seriously damaged goods.

It’s Whiny Wednesday. What’s rubbing you the wrong way this week?

I think the biggest thing bugging me right now is that people assume that we are just waiting to have kids instead of not having them at all. We are doing good at learning on how to be just us, but I feel like I’m put back a step when someone mentions someday when we have kids.

Stuff like that DEFINITELY rubs me the wrong way. We have friends who will often ask us “Do you want to take her??” when we see them with their very hyper 6-year-old daughter. The kicker is that she’s adopted, & her parents went through infertility & two lost babies to get her. Go figure. :p

Right now, I am feeling sad about the controversy at Stirrup Queens over the creation of a parenting after infertility group & their apparent (if inadvertent) coopting of some of Mel’s ideas. There is a lot more I could write about the whole mess, but after writing & deleting several times, I think I’m going to leave it at that. 😦

(One more whine: I sense AF’s impending arrival. Maybe that explains my mood, lol.)

Thankfully, no! However somehow I’m getting a subscription to American Baby. Thankfully my neighbor can use it, so I always pass it on to her! I would love to know how it happened though.

I’m whining today because I stepped aside from a position last year, but everyone thinks I’ll continue doing the same work for virtually no pay. Argh! And I had to spend the entire day sitting through a boring seminar re-inventing the wheel.

Hi! No whine from me today… I just wanted to say that I really love this blog and have nominated it for a Kreativ Blogger Award.
Please visit me at (Peaches – A sad comedy) to get the award if you wish to do that 🙂
    Take care!

  6. I’m whining becasue I’m about to make a phone call to a surgical center to set up my tubal and this afternoon I’m babysitting. Why can’t I just say no? I wanted kids and this is about the worst timing there could possibly be. It’s Thursday now but it felt good to share. Thank you for asking.

Oh. Yeah, why do we volunteer for things that we know are going to hurt? I used to do this more, but I’ve been practicing saying no. It’s not easy.

Hoping all goes well with your surgery.
