Filling the silence in the motherhood discussion

Whiny Wednesday: Will the celebrity bump parade ever end? September 14, 2011

I’ve spent a lot of time over the past month browsing magazine racks in airports and train stations, and I have to ask: Will the media’s obsession with pregnant celebrities ever end?

From six rows back on my last flight I saw the news of Beyoncé’s pregnancy plastered over two pages of a fellow passenger’s magazine, and I think, “If every other celebrity is showing off her pregnant belly in a teeny weeny bikini, is this really news?”

Enough already, I say.

It’s Whiny Wednesday and I’ve missed it grumbling this past month. If you have pent up whines, let them out. Today’s the day!

There are a couple things that have bugged me lately. The fact that a considerably younger friend, whose life is decidedly in disarray is pregnant with baby number two. Just not fair at all.

One day a few weeks ago I inquired of a friend how she knew one of her facebook friends (I knew the woman’s husband through my husband). She replied it was through her Mommies group. I felt like I was sucker punched. Not even why it hurt so much, but damn it did.

The above seemed to coincide with an influx of baby movies and all of their scenes of bodily functions I’d rather not be privy to. I’m just sayin…

I’ve really had it with seeing really bad parenting lately. Personally from my friends, and several instances in public lately. Some of it’s so bad I am certain these children are going to have serious issues in their teenage years. It might be easy to say that without having my own kids, but I’m fairly certain other parents would agree with me on most of these cases. I especially am bothered by those parents who act as though everything their child does annoys them and that their children are just an inconvenience to their lives. They are not my children and I am not going to tell anyone how to raise them, but I had two great parents who raised me so I think I have a pretty good idea of what good parenting is. I feel very sorry for some of the children I know.

On the celeb pregnancy note…I go on to MSN some days and read headlines like “so-and-so expecting first baby” and I think to myself “h=who in the world is that???” and turns out to be some supporing actress from a show cancelled 4 years ago. Must we know about every impending birth in Hollywood? I don’t think so.

Wow I sound bitter today :)

The ‘second wave’ has hit my social circle. It’s the phenomenon that happens about 2-3 years after their first kid is born and they are now expecting their next kid. Being infertile through the first wave was tough enough. Here we go again. yay.
